I wasn't sure how easy it would be to pick up. I know sometimes if you start with one yarn craft, you can find the other one to be difficult. I'm blessed enough to find both within my abilities and have found that I might enjoy knitting just a bit more. It doesn't take me as long to complete projects and I can find more patterns that I like. I'm not forsaking crochet. In fact, I am working on an afghan for my little one on the way. However, I have been busy with knitting.<br /><br />Heirloom Stockings:<br /><div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9305JgD2mz5ykc4SW9TLE-BEbEKZAnTHhEHBtrP1SS99NXGdJ5MrTGYmHUxbE4YGfGcLINeTl3iZ1hWnQph-s1Ms5k84RAmTkWxGAZ2MdyG0z6LI8aroVrdXtkTV_QAVl-H5PcECvL9w6/s320/IMG_1712.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></div><br /><br />My sister and her husband celebrated their first Christmas as a married couple. I decided to mark the occassion with a set of stockings. The pattern is from <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Holiday-Knits-Great-Stockings-Sweaters/dp/0811847187">Holiday Knits by Allison Isaacs</a>. My brother-in-law was super excited because it was his first stocking ever. I used Cascade Pastaza which had the perfect fuzziness and I learned how to do a kitchener stitch and a Turkish heel.<br /><br /><div>Fingerless Mitts & Mobius Cowl:<br /><br /><div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhRDJNcUipxuAMY_PpeiyFV2HGBESUvncbEqfAsoXrOwmaF5nogET61xM8iu-_d3FrRucz5lHBQAVv_2pwBOQLVneang5UIAl5lOcO-12u78-N7xU7hzH81OEYN6EXwQlFecAMG4CldEKd/s320/IMG_1718.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></div><br /><div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ2V9zpZAOpP4g9VeBhnZUThiEowUEztHOJZkdnTQVUWtCgrVz2LRRj9cKkOi2wO9_EWiaKCGDWYmdYXqeJ-7cudtfBDuNJLteVLJiuc4fGF3UtEVansgSJQMpapB1Yp1pmvrmcHUIdYsz/s320/IMG_1721.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></div><br /><div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhwQgIKcnCTLGB16fl27N78gwpFHgqAW08LctcOfbzEGjwjI9CCl8ci9JPY0bTfiuiJSYPto2PFJAPgr-hx4Syo_lyCZCtfinblbZC-iNAm2PhQ1q7Db_FOp1yn2fKfTPd9yeSUeuOjO90/s320/IMG_1722.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></div>For my youngest sister, I made a pair of fingerless mitts and a mobius cowl in a grey mohair I picked up once at a going out of business sale. Only I find out that it is generally advised not to wear mohair close to the skin. She suggested she could wear gloves underneath the mitts to protect her skin from the itchiness. She was wearing black gloves and people kept commenting that it looked like ape hands. </div><div><br />Dragon Scale Mitts:<br /><br /><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzMwnFI0B7iaGCYwj0cSF5TtQEd0c_QCc7IvFTh1oQsfcuItQpBPCQ9YEGoHVtGHArrmA85cxJHWcAwKDKE2lBwU1YH-Lw-BRala5obd1PjOLMzXQXcehqZUgHH2UkuezV645we5o3TarC/s320/IMG_1727.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288386104350604242" border="0" /><br /><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHJSP8gHo31zWbmNbk1MwZZIhBUAv4HNdyqM7Jr7PUGbVouHp4tPLF0cMB3sn-962TNBT_a4QyT2_yRSga3Ob1hQpzd_FPhcdr7SRjvlzuJrh6yxEG8bW7a2nisidLm1_d-5ChTk9oDf4c/s320/IMG_1725.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288386093590475730" border="0" /><br />A friend requested that I make these fingerless mitts for her from <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/dragon-scale-mitts">the purlbee blog</a>. They pattern was a lot of fun, though I did run into some problems with dropped stitches. I used Blue Sky Sport Alpaca which the pattern request and it is a nice yarn to work with. I liked them so much that I want to make a pair of mitts for me. Though, I will probably use a different pattern so my friend and I don't match.<br /><br /></div><div>I also finished a scarf with Malabrigo Aquarella in Solis. Pictures coming soon. I love how it looks with my coat. I should have plenty of baby projects to post here in the near future. I think I queued too many baby projects on Ravelry. </div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://picasa.google.com/blogger/" target="ext"><img src="http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif" alt="Posted by Picasa" style="border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" align="middle" border="0" /></a></div>Fia Kilbournhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09143605881204297179noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3950333286663795746.post-23699976567573007562008-10-16T19:36:00.002-06:002008-10-16T19:40:24.153-06:00RelistedFor those who haven't heard, I am expecting my first child. I am 19 weeks along and can say pregnancy is tough work, hence my inactivity on this blog and in my shop.<br /><br />I finally found some time to relist my expired items at reduced prices. Head over to <a href="http://finelywrought.etsy.com">the shop</a> to check out hats, capelets, scarves and more for the upcoming season. As always, a portion of your purchase will go to fight human trafficking.Fia Kilbournhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09143605881204297179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3950333286663795746.post-70801988753343398522008-04-28T17:51:00.005-06:002008-04-28T18:13:45.587-06:00There is life on this blogI don't have any pictures of finished projects. I seem to have picked several projects which are monotonous and thus, taking me awhile to finish. I also have a few project that are complete, but just need a few finishing touches (weave in ends, block, etc.) Why is this always so hard to do? Haha.<br /><br />I do want to show you my new office. I turned a corner of my bedroom into a little cubicle for myself to work and organize my things. I used mostly Ikea furniture and then picked up different organization items here and there. Here are the pictures:<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3004/2450655136_9ddd149b1f_b.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3004/2450655136_9ddd149b1f_b.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>the office<br /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3108/2450654352_871dd8c6d1_b.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3108/2450654352_871dd8c6d1_b.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>the desk<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2272/2449830761_4dc0e1ef0b_b.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2272/2449830761_4dc0e1ef0b_b.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>clean desktop, for now<br /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2381/2449826859_94ef8ab170_o.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2381/2449826859_94ef8ab170_o.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>ikea clock, ikea lamp, eco green notepads, coffee mug as pencil holder<br /></div><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3021/2450651256_22eb72eabe_b.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3021/2450651256_22eb72eabe_b.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>cyma grocery bags for WIPs<br />(works in progress, for those who don't know)<br /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2310/2450651498_86b0627817_b.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2310/2450651498_86b0627817_b.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>ikea shelf<br /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3069/2449827049_771236079a_b.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3069/2449827049_771236079a_b.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>wine gift box for needles, plastic tubs for yarn<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2325/2450651674_3a35f4880d_o.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2325/2450651674_3a35f4880d_o.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>wire basket for odds and ends,<br />green home logic basket for projects that need finishing,<br />ikea vases for yarn and thread<br /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2223/2450652308_3a4e3d6fb2_b.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2223/2450652308_3a4e3d6fb2_b.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>ikea boxes, sterilite tub for yarn, eco green portable filer<br /></div><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3236/2450652592_bbe72c1b4a_o.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3236/2450652592_bbe72c1b4a_o.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>ikea boxes and magazine organizers<br /></div>Fia Kilbournhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09143605881204297179noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3950333286663795746.post-73679703543457499862008-04-05T14:48:00.005-06:002008-04-05T15:04:47.779-06:00Checking in.It's been awhile since I posted. I started some projects that are taking awhile. I also took a bit of a break from making things. I have been busy with several things, some include working on other aspects of the business. I just want to say thanks to those who have stuck around through my infrequent updates.Fia Kilbournhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09143605881204297179noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3950333286663795746.post-69839538609337524992008-02-22T20:42:00.003-06:002008-02-22T20:51:15.458-06:00Newly listed itemsA view at what was recently added to the Finely Wrought store:<br /><br />Warm Embrace Capelet—This turtleneck capelet is made with Malabrigo's Merino Wool Yarn. I love to crochet and I got a beginner's knitting kit for Christmas but when it comes down to it, I can only make so many things for myself. I want some of the proceeds to go to <a href="http://www.ijm.org">International Justice Mission</a> or another NGO that is fighting slavery. I have even thought of selling certain items with 100% going to IJM et al. I've started stockpiling some FO's. I really want to hold off on opening my store until I have a collection of items that really show who I am as a designer--mainly my lace work. I am working on a Solomon's knot scarf in vintage yarn. It is starting to look beautiful. I also made an ear flap cap with matching scarflet and a big pom beanie--pictures coming soon. One other aspect that I am considering for my shop is using yarn recycled from sweaters and eco-friendly yarns.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3950333286663795746.post-32415711895074549892007-12-09T17:18:00.000-06:002007-12-09T17:21:45.802-06:00Garn Studio & Drops Design Advent CalendarGarn Studio and Drops Design has a <a href="http://www.garnstudio.com/julekalender.php?lang=en">holiday advent calendar</a> with a knitting or crochet project posted each day. The pictures were so great that I was able to analyze the pattern and make it from the pictures alone. I used recycled yarn. I'm pretty happy with the results, but I would love to make this again with different yarn. Maybe something more delicate.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMlbxerT3wH5vrNNur8N7OrOpvRt9kTvQsyYW0ibgTbU1-J6UYm5f4nqafsd-UUiWY4vC615J8XNg_YapZplLo0LiCDLMyb-AeZ6GVIcNHqJRvvCYVuX_oumc1lDAcr8kmmrKJQhBDvo1_/s1600-h/pine.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMlbxerT3wH5vrNNur8N7OrOpvRt9kTvQsyYW0ibgTbU1-J6UYm5f4nqafsd-UUiWY4vC615J8XNg_YapZplLo0LiCDLMyb-AeZ6GVIcNHqJRvvCYVuX_oumc1lDAcr8kmmrKJQhBDvo1_/s320/pine.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5141398850059409122" border="0" /></a><br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmzUbtAiIcOs-hxTEx-ayz2MpzJEDH43QEglKVjcv7JMCDGdvPh8zjSlMQeCCEIei_EDXz-yY65TEOBCG0oH8LSWW_pTUcYSLupde_uuxge446NrW98apvOHrXZsZA-rO9Aa5vVYsySA6s/s1600-h/pinecollar.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmzUbtAiIcOs-hxTEx-ayz2MpzJEDH43QEglKVjcv7JMCDGdvPh8zjSlMQeCCEIei_EDXz-yY65TEOBCG0oH8LSWW_pTUcYSLupde_uuxge446NrW98apvOHrXZsZA-rO9Aa5vVYsySA6s/s320/pinecollar.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5141398858649343730" border="0" /></a><br /></div><br />I still need to add sleeves...maybe, I kinda like it sleeveless.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3950333286663795746.post-64877783386863381062007-12-05T12:41:00.000-06:002007-12-09T05:40:41.924-06:00Lovely Sparkly SweaterI have a holiday party this weekend and I bought a special dress for it. So, I decided to start another project as a reward for accomplishing my big move to the west coast. I found <a href="http://m1designs.typepad.com/m1/2007/08/crop-crochet-ca.html">this beautiful cardigan</a> through <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/">Ravelry.com</a>. (If you haven't signed up for the waiting list, you really need to get your butt over there.) I am using yarn that I recycled from this huge shapeless sweater that I once owned. I think the yarn will be put to better use in my new project.<br />Watch and see what this becomes:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/8842016@N02/666629231/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1234/666629231_54093958b0.jpg" alt="Recycled Sweater" height="204" width="500" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3950333286663795746.post-65811360471560750182007-09-11T15:18:00.000-06:002007-09-11T15:31:25.532-06:00Finally, an FOI don't like moving. By moving, I mean packing and transporting yourself to your new place. It is nice to experience life in a new place, but the actual process of getting there is exhausting and kind of puts your life on hold. However, through the move, I somehow managed to finish a baby blanket for my friends new baby.<br /><br /><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1077/1361699081_e36a1f44a6.jpg" /><br /><br /><br /><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1422/1361694043_32005a71a2.jpg" /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Of course, I didn't finish it before he was born, or even before we moved. So, now I need to ship it to them. I just hope he hasn't outgrown it yet.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3950333286663795746.post-38756234143088350102007-07-17T22:14:00.000-06:002007-07-17T22:17:15.485-06:00I'm still alive and crochetingI'm in the middle of planning a move from Illinois to California, so needless to say, I have been pretty busy. But I am still crocheting. I started a basket to use up some of my stash. I also have a friend expecting a baby in the next few weeks and I have started an afghan for her baby. I will have pictures soon. I would really like to use a lot of my yarn so that I don't have to move it.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3950333286663795746.post-14127773063037591472007-07-04T14:07:00.000-06:002007-07-04T14:11:31.039-06:002 days=1 scarfUsing a Q hook on chunky yarn makes things go really quickly.<br /><br /><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1148/717868268_b83d791f8f.jpg" src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1148/717868268_b83d791f8f.jpg" /><br /><br /><br /><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1247/717868204_f565667cb7.jpg" src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1247/717868204_f565667cb7.jpg" /><br /><br />I am pretty much in stash busting mode (hence, the scarf) since we are moving soon. I am working with boucle, which is not fun. I think that is the cause of slacking off this time. I think I am going to revisit <a href="http://finelywrought.blogspot.com/2007/04/aunt-scarf.html">my aunt's scarf</a> and rework it. I am not happy with how it turned out and I have an idea to make it better.<br /><br />I think I should finish <a href="http://finelywrought.blogspot.com/2007/04/in-progress.html">my sweater</a>. I have an idea for the sleeves. I am hoping that I can keep this streak up. My problem is that I am not disciplined enough with my time. I don't experience this in just crocheting. I waste too much time online. I am going to try and limit how much I am online...so that I can do the things that I really want to do. So, I hope in a few days I can post pictures of a finished piece or two.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3950333286663795746.post-17138862185430570942007-06-13T13:00:00.000-06:002007-06-13T13:01:44.339-06:00Casablanca & Maltese FalconRented some movies yesterday, which means I will be doing some more crocheting soon.
